Just One Hour

“ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU”

John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address, January 20, 1961

As I consider the upcoming New Year and consider how I want to be involved with my community in 2013 I reflect upon the words of John F Kennedy, we spend so much time seeing what is wrong with our community, our city, our state and our country and so little time thinking about the small ways that we can make a little difference.  If each person did nothing more than volunteer one hour each month to doing something in their community that served to improve it in some small way, imagine what I country would look like in one year.

We do not all have the freedom of an abundance of time, or the luxury of donating large sums of money but each of us could eek out an hour a month to make a small difference.

Not an hour serving on a committee but an hour of doing, picking up the litter on the road near your home, serving food to the poor, reading to children, or visiting a shut in.  There are so many ways that we can spend our hour
